On May 12, at Gocheok Sky Dome, Hanwha Eagles defeated Kiwoom Heroes 11-5 in an away game, securing their first three-game winning streak of the season. The victory improved Hanwha’s record to 17-20, while Kiwoom fell to 13-24 (with one draw).

Starting pitcher Ryu Hyun-jin delivered a solid performance, tossing five innings with five hits, two walks, nine strikeouts, and three earned runs. Backed by an early offensive explosion, he earned his fourth win of the season (against two losses). With this victory, Ryu recorded his 121st career win in the KBO, adding to his 78 MLB wins for a combined 199 wins in his professional career.

Kiwoom’s starter Bae Dong-hyun struggled against his former team, allowing 11 hits (including one home run) and eight earned runs over just three innings, suffering his second loss (against four wins).
The Hanwha offense erupted from the first inning. Leadoff hitter Hwang Young-muk was hit by a pitch, followed by a single from Jonathan Ferraz. After Moon Hyun-bin struck out, Kang Baek-ho drew a walk to load the bases. Noh Si-hwan then crushed a grand slam, his third career grand slam, putting Hanwha up 4-0.
The scoring continued. Singles from Lee Jin-young and Kim Tae-yeon put runners on first and third with one out, and Choi Jae-hoon’s sacrifice fly made it 5-0. In the second inning, Hwang Young-muk singled, and after a double play by Ferraz, Moon Hyun-bin doubled and advanced to third on an error. Kang Baek-ho’s RBI double extended the lead to 6-0. In the top of the fourth, consecutive hits by Ferraz, Moon Hyun-bin, Kang Baek-ho, and Noh Si-hwan pushed the lead to 8-0.

Kiwoom got on the board in the bottom of the fourth. After one out, Ahn Chi-hong and Choi Joo-hwan hit back-to-back singles, and Brooks threw a sacrifice fly to score one run. In the fifth, with two outs, Seo Geon-chang singled, Lim Byeong-wook walked, and a wild pitch moved them to second and third. Ahn Chi-hong’s two-run single cut the lead to 8-3.
Kang Baek-ho’s solo home run in the top of the sixth extended Hanwha’s lead, but Kiwoom responded in the bottom half. With two outs, walks and hit-by-pitches loaded the bases, and Seo Geon-chang’s RBI single kept the gap at five runs.
Hanwha added an insurance run in the eighth. After Kang Baek-ho walked and Noh Si-hwan singled, two wild pitches allowed the tenth run to score. In the bottom of the eighth, Kiwoom’s Ju Seong-won walked, Yang Hyun-jong singled, and Choi Jae-young’s sacrifice fly made it 10-5.

Hanwha regained a six-run lead in the top of the ninth on Moon Hyun-bin’s RBI single.
Hanwha’s bullpen held the lead: Jo Dong-wook (⅔ inning, one run), Lee Sang-kyu (1⅓ innings, scoreless), Kwon Min-gyu (one inning, scoreless), and Lee Min-woo (one inning, scoreless) combined to close the game. For Kiwoom, after Bae Dong-hyun’s early exit, Kim Seo-joon threw three innings of one-run ball, followed by Jo Young-geon (one scoreless inning), Kim Dong-gyu (zero innings, one run), and Jeong Se-young (two scoreless innings).
