Sporting is bracing for a mini-revolution at the end of this season? Could a potential Champions League qualification influence the changes within the squad come summer?
“Yes, I believe that’s only natural. Europa League or Champions League will inevitably change things because the financial side shifts, and we can’t escape that. As for the players, revolution or not, the market will decide. Apart from Morita, all our players are under contract, and we’re always monitoring adjustments. Now, end of a cycle or revolution… there are players who intend to pursue a different path, like Morita, whose contract is expiring. Perhaps he’s a player who wants a new direction; he’s been here for many years. Among those under contract, maybe one or two feel the same. But that depends on what the market dictates. They won’t leave just for the sake of leaving. Clubs have to come forward, express interest, and pay. All of them have release clauses. Our squad is defined and already reflects my vision. As for departures, we’ll keep adjusting… Not only who leaves, because we always want to tweak one position or another. But we’re always prepared thanks to the work done by Sporting’s scouting department.”
