Sammo Hung, the legendary martial arts star, continues to showcase his enduring wealth and influence even as age takes its toll on his physique. On May 13, Xiao Min, the owner of Huangshi’s only four-star hotel, the Golden Flower Hotel, shared a video of cooking for the action icon, captioned “Cooking for Master Sammo Hung.”
Reports suggest that over the past two years, Sammo Hung has been active in mainland China, exploring local cultures such as Shaanxi noodle-making and pear garden traditions. It appears he may have settled down on the mainland. Previously, his daughter-in-law Joyce Godenzi revealed that the family had relocated to Shenzhen. Given that Sammo Hung used to live with his son and daughter-in-law in Hong Kong, many believe he has now permanently moved to the mainland. His recent trip to Hubei for a banquet indicates he might be considering settling there or has many friends and relatives in the area.
Instead of hosting the banquet at a hotel or hiring a private chef, Sammo Hung opted for a unique approach: he brought a team from a four-star hotel to cook at a local restaurant. Xiao Min, the hotel owner, personally attended and served dishes, suggesting the event was either costly or a chance for Xiao Min to meet his idol.
The menu featured high-end local delicacies such as Yangxin stewed bird soup, Ezhou Fanchang Wuchang fish, Xisai Taohua fish soup, Qiandao Lake knife fish, and oatmeal beef cubes. The most expensive part was hiring multiple chefs, including Chinese culinary master Chef Wu, pushing the total cost well into the thousands.
After the preparations, the 76-year-old Sammo Hung arrived at the restaurant with his wife, former Hong Kong beauty queen Joyce Godenzi. Unlike before, he no longer uses a wheelchair and walked steadily with minimal assistance. His wife, elegant and youthful with dark hair, sat quietly beside him, listening attentively and posing for photos without hesitation.
One notable aspect is that the couple has no children together, a fact that fans find regrettable given Joyce’s stunning beauty and talent. As actor Yu Hewei famously said in a TV drama, “After a lifetime of fighting, shouldn’t we enjoy ourselves?”
