
San Francisco Bay Area baseball fans will get their first close look at Pittsburgh’s highly touted rookie, Konnor Griffin, when the Giants host the Pirates for a three-game series starting Friday night.
Griffin, who made his MLB debut as a 19-year-old early last month, arrives in San Francisco on a hot streak. He has recorded hits in eight of his last nine games, boosting his batting average from .213 to .257.
“It feels great to be settled in,” Griffin said. The shortstop played only 127 minor-league games before being called up, less than two years after the Pirates selected him ninth overall straight out of high school.
“We have a great locker room,” he added. “Everyone supports you. I’m just happy to be on the field every day, working hard and doing what I love.”
