Ozeki Kirishima starts with two wins, while Kotozakura suffers second straight loss; new sekiwake Atamifuji and Kotoshoho also fall; Hoshoryu withdraws from day two

The second day of the Summer Grand Sumo Tournament at Ryogoku Kokugikan saw a mixed bag of results for the ozeki ranks.

Returning ozeki Kirishima (Otowayama) improved to 2-0 after forcing out East Maegashira 2 Yoshi no Fuji (Isegahama) with a thrust-down.

In contrast, ozeki Kotozakura (Sadogatake) was pushed out by komusubi Wakamotoharu (Arashio) to fall to 0-2. Wakamotoharu, meanwhile, earned his second straight win.

New sekiwake Kotoshoho (Sadogatake) suffered his second loss as well, shoved out by West Maegashira 1 Takakeisho Minato (Minatogawa). Fellow new sekiwake Atamifuji (Isegahama) also dropped to 0-2 after being forced out by East Maegashira 3 Hiradoumi (Sakagawa).

Komusubi Takayasu (Tanogashira) improved to 2-0 by pulling down West Maegashira 2 Ichiyamamoto (Hanaregoma).

Yokozuna Hoshoryu (Tatenami) was absent from the second day, giving East Maegashira 1 Fujinokawa (Ise no Umi) a default win.
