Marc Márquez Successfully Undergoes Surgery: ‘Everything Went Well

Published on: 2026-05-12 | Author: admin

For Marc Márquez, his return to the track is currently the most important of the less urgent matters for the Spanish rider. However, this Sunday, the Ducati star began his personal countdown to rejoin the MotoGP grid. When that moment arrives will depend on recovery timelines that remain uncertain and secondary for now. The key point is that the eight-time world champion has undergone successful surgery in Madrid for the double procedure he needed after his crash in the sprint race at the French GP, where he fractured the fifth metatarsal of his right foot. His shoulder was the other focus of the operation, and fortunately, “everything went well.”

As MotoGP riders prepared on the grid at Le Mans for the French GP, Márquez left the operating room at Ruber Internacional. Davide Tardozzi, team manager of Ducati Lenovo, confirmed to DAZN: “Right now, our thoughts are with Marc, who has just come out of surgery, and everything went well. So we look forward to having him back as soon as possible. The most important thing for us now, beyond sport, is Marc’s health. We welcome him with open arms.” The Italian executive didn’t even wait for the medical report, which arrived later in the afternoon.

“The double surgical intervention on Marc Márquez in Madrid has been a success. The Ducati Lenovo Team rider underwent two procedures this morning: one on his right foot and another on his right shoulder. Marc Márquez is now recovering at the Ruber Internacional Hospital in Madrid, where this morning’s surgery was successful. The medical team, led by Dr. Samuel Antuña alongside Dr. Ignacio Roger de Oña, Dr. Andrés Maldonado, Dr. Jorge de las Heras, Dr. Raúl Barco, and Dr. Juan de Miguel, successfully stabilized the fracture of the fifth metatarsal in the rider’s right foot. This injury occurred yesterday as a result of a highside crash in the final laps of the sprint race at the French GP,” the Ducati statement began.

Before the news broke, the team kept Márquez in their thoughts, as shown by two messages of encouragement displayed on the bike fairings in the official garage. A sticker also featured a clear message: “More united than ever.” As Tardozzi recalled on Sunday morning (when the rider entered surgery shortly after 9 a.m.), “Marc’s health is the top priority.” That’s why the Italian manager didn’t mention any potential recovery timeline; in principle, it shouldn’t be too long. But for now, that’s secondary.

If the recovery involved only the foot fracture, the timeline might be more specific. However, as planned, Márquez also “underwent a second surgical intervention, scheduled in advance, to treat a previous injury to his right shoulder. This prior trauma had caused pain again following the crash.”
